The Vivas Family
Welcome! My name is Hope, and the above is my wonderful family! We FINALLY have a new family photo! Art is my sweetheart and soul mate. We've been married for 13 years. Ruben is my oldest son. He is 17 years old. Next comes Nathan, 12, then Rebekah, 10, Jonathan, 7, and our Isabella, 4. Our beautiful niece, Abrigael, 3 months joined us in August of 2003. We kept her for a year until her mommy was ready to take her home again.
We are in our 11th year of home schooling. Well, part of us anyway. Ruben has graduated one year early with an Honor's Diploma from public high school. Anyway, back to home schooling. We started out using textbooks and gradually worked our way into some textbooks and mostly unit studies. We've used the Weaver Curriculum, Horizons Math, Easy Grammar, Daily Grams, Start Write Handwriting, Reading Detective, the Great Adventures in Writing, the American Girls Series, Switched on Schoolhouse, Abeka, Horizons phonics and Lifepac language for Rebekah, as well as Explode the Code, Worldy Wise and Megawords; not to mention our local library! We also use the internet...especially love ACBTeach.com and Learningpage.com. Some days it gets pretty loud, but that's what having fun is all about! (Loud in our home...not the library!)
The most important thing in our lives is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with all of our hearts, all of our souls, and all of our minds. After that, there is nothing more important than our family. The love which abounds in our home is what gets us through the best and worst of times.
We are currently in the process of moving to a new city! A huge change for us having been here all of our married life.
My hobbies are computer time! Actually, I enjoy writing, computer publishing, scrap booking, playing my clarinet, baking, and reading a good book (especially Frank Peretti), not to mention the internet. My newest "hobby" is learning all I can about food allergies, nutrition and eating healthy because of Isabella's severe food allergies. I'm even putting together a cookbook!
